About

Studying business.
Building things on the side.

I'm in my final year at JMI and I spend a lot of time thinking about products โ€” what makes people actually use something, what makes them come back, and what makes them trust it. Whisperloop is my attempt at answering those questions with something real, not just a case study.

What I built
Whisperloop
Anonymous Voice App

Students have thoughts they can't say out loud โ€” not even in a text. Whisperloop lets you record an 8-second voice clip, masks your voice, and posts it to a campus feed. No name. No face. Just the thought.

I built this from scratch. Designed the UX, wrote the code, figured out real-time voice pitch shifting with the Web Audio API, built a report and moderation system, and validated it with students at JMI โ€” all before writing a line of backend.

๐ŸŽญ
Voice masking
Pitch-shifts your voice 5 semitones on your device before anything is shared. The original is never uploaded.
๐Ÿ”’
Privacy by design
Email verified once then permanently deleted. No names, roll numbers, or fingerprints โ€” ever.
๐Ÿšฉ
Safety built in
Report button on every clip. Auto-hides content with 3+ reports. Moderation was a day-one decision, not an afterthought.
User Research

What real JMI students said.

I ran a closed beta with 120+ JMI students who visited the prototype. 52 responded via a structured Google Form covering first impressions, usability, trust, and what they'd want next. Here's what I found.

120+Students reached the prototype
52Completed the feedback form
60%Said voice masking made them feel safe
60%
Voice masking felt reassuring
When asked how it felt knowing their voice would be changed, the majority said it made them feel safe โ€” not uncomfortable or indifferent.
80%
Said yes or probably to posting
When asked "would you post something honest on this app?" โ€” 4 out of 5 said yes or some version of it. The anonymity works.
40%
Eventually understood the app
The biggest UX gap โ€” 40% said they got it eventually but weren't sure at first. Clear signal that onboarding needs work before public launch.
Top ask
Better UI + voice change options
The two most requested features were a better UI design and more voice masking styles โ€” both things I'm already working into the next version.
What people actually wrote
"
Like something for anonymous texting โ€” I wasn't sure at first but once I got it, it made sense. The voice thing is actually a cool idea.
JMI student, beta tester
"
The ability to change voice is what would make me open this every day. Right now I still feel a bit exposed even if it says anonymous.
JMI student, beta tester
"
Reassuring โ€” made me feel safe. Didn't expect to like the voice masking but it actually makes you feel like you can say things you wouldn't normally.

The research confirmed the core hypothesis โ€” anonymity + voice is a compelling combination for campus expression โ€” but also surfaced two clear priorities for V2: stronger onboarding and more voice filter variety. Both are already in the roadmap.
How I think about products

From observation to launch.

Whisperloop didn't start with a feature list. It started with a real problem I noticed.

โ†’
Start with what's actually broken
Students have things they want to say but can't โ€” not even anonymously in text, because screenshots exist. Voice felt different. That observation came first, the app second.
โ†’
Prototype before building
Built a fully working interactive prototype โ€” real mic recording, live waveforms, voice masking โ€” before touching backend infrastructure. You need to feel a product before you commit to building it.
โ†’
Safety isn't a version 2 problem
Anonymous apps get abused. I built the report system, auto-moderation logic, and privacy policy into the first version. That's not extra work โ€” that's just what responsible product building looks like.
โ†’
Validate with real people, not assumptions
120+ students, 52 form responses, and a bunch of in-person conversations. The feedback changed what I'm building next. That's the point of research โ€” not to confirm what you already think.

Let's work
together.

I'm looking for PM and strategy roles where I can build things that actually matter. If that sounds like your team, reach out.
